Oh, how I love June – that fabulous time of year when I get to wander the halls of Suites at Market Square selecting fabrics. It’s always so intriguing to see what the new “IT” design will be. But this time, it wasn’t a certain pattern that stood out. It was more WHO the mill is collaborating with to design the patterns that stirred excitement. The most famous design collaboration, of course, was between the stunning Jaclyn Smith and Fabricut. She was actually in attendance, introducing her new line and hosting a meet and greet where I (little ole’ me) got a chance to snap a picture with her! Imagine – me and an Angel! Now, back to her line, it was simply amazing. So rich in color and very original.
Other designers jumping into the fabric design game are Kelly Ripa, Kate Spade, Genevieve Gorder, and Candace Olson. Kelly Ripa has a fabric line with Jo Ann’s Fabrics and Home Furnishings, exclusively at Macy’s. She just may be the next Martha Stewart! Kate Spade did a bright and bold fabric line with coordinating bedding. Her lines are consistently fun and always include her staple Picnic Green color. And Genevieve Gorder and Candace Olson had new introductions, enhancing their already successful fabric lines.
As for colors and patterns, Indigo was everywhere. There were so many comments about what a huge seller Indigo has been. Other colors that stood out to me were Coral and Pantone’s Rose Quartz and Serenity. Personally, I love the Coral! When I’ve been out shopping lately, I noticed how drawn I am to it. It’s a completely fun summer color to wear or decorate with. And Rose Quartz and Serenity are such a peaceful blend. For patterns, tone-on-tone, embroidery and geometrics filled almost every line.
Last but not least – outdoor textiles. They have really come a long way. There have always been one or two mills that have produced striking outdoor options, but there were 3 or 4 new lines introduced this June. All of them were outstanding. It amazes me how they can produce such beautiful, soft textiles for the outdoors. I saw modern, traditional and tropical embroidery all nicely done. No matter what your style, you can find outdoor options that will wear and withstand the elements in style. Outdoor textiles are huge.
In all, I had a fabulous ShowTime. I usually do, but for some reason at this one I fell in love with so many fabrics. You are going to see some beautiful interiors from Spradling this year. I’m so excited, I can’t wait!! But first, I have to unpack the boxes of fabric that are coming in. Time to fill the shelves at Spradling again!
