At the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the Ford Motor Company prominently displayed five 2016 models – the Focus ST, the Fiesta ST, the F-150 Raptor Truck, the Shelby T350R Mustang and the GT – all in a very unique shade of blue. They have dubbed this new color “Liquid Blue.” It is a deep, rich hue with just a hint of grey; it flows from a shade of red to a warm shade of blue as it reflects and absorbs its surrounding environment.
The color is really cool, in fact, so cool you’re going to want it, but you can’t have it! WHAAAT?!? That’s right! Liquid Blue is Ford’s new performance paint color, which will only be used by Ford on show cars. Creating this color is a long and complex process, featuring many layers of manufacturing savvy. So until they decide to make it available to everyone, you’ll just have to wait – like the rest of us.
Liquid Blue reminds me of when I used to race jet skis. The Yamaha Team would show up with a custom trailer and a bunch of PWCs, all painted in their signature “Race Blu” color. It was very impressive – and intimidating! Their shade of blue was a bit darker and had a lot more red in it, but the coolest thing about the color was that it was available to the public.
“Hey Ford. Hint, hint! You guys better get that color out there soon, before it’s available on the new 2016 Camaro!”
